it moves to a 4-day school week
many of us wish we could have longer weekends. but for about 18,000 students in colorado, usa, that wish has come true. a school district there, 27j, has decided to move to a 4-day week. and this move has just started.
with the change, students go to school tuesdays through fridays. there are some reasons behind this move. one of the main reasons is to keep and attract great teachers. 27j is one of the lowest-funded school districts in colorado. the teachers there are paid less compared to neighboring districts.
"over the years, we've lost a lot of excellent teachers," said tracy rudnick, an officer from the district.
parents voiced different opinions on this move. some love the fact that they're going to have another day with their children at home, while others are concerned about childcare on mondays, especially if they have younger students. as for the students, most of them are happy that they can have more free time.
this isn't the first district in the usa to introduce a 4-day school week. several districts made the same move years ago. some of them report that more good teachers applied after the change. but the influences on students' performances are different. some students say they are more concentrated in class, while others say their grades have suffered.
